Tim Minchin
Music & Lyrics
Tim Minchin is a musician, actor, writer and comedian.
He is the multiple Olivier and Helpmann Award-winning, Tony and Grammy nominated composer-lyricist of two stage musicals, Matilda the Musical and Groundhog Day. The feature film of Matilda the Musical was released in 2022.
As a singer-songwriter and comedian, he has toured the UK, US and Australia, selling out some of the world’s most iconic venues, including The Royal Albert Hall, The Sydney Opera House, and Wembley Arena. He has released four specials, including Back (2022) and Tim Minchin Vs the Heritage Orchestra Live at the Royal Albert Hall (2012).
His 2020 studio album, Apart Together, debuted at #3 on the Australian charts and reached top 30 in the UK.
Screen acting roles include his AACTA award-winning Lucky Flynn in Upright, Atticus Fetch in season 6 of Californication, Friar Tuck in Robin Hood (2018), a Logie award-winning Smasher Sullivan in the ABC’s Secret River, and Darius Cracksworth in the upcoming Disney Plus series, The Artful Dodger.
He is the head writer and a co-producer of Upright, his writing earning him an Australian Writer’s Guild (AWGIE) award.
Stage acting roles include his acclaimed Judas in the 2013-14 Arena Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, and Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead at the Sydney Theatre Company.
He was the voice of Shaun Tan’s Oscar winning The Lost Thing, of Pretty Boy in Netflix’s Back To The Outback and of Chihoohoo in the upcoming Scary Girl.
He has released a graphic novel, Storm, and two children’s books. He is a member of the Order of Australia and has received three honorary doctorates of letters. His acceptance speech for his UWA doctorate has been viewed over 150 million times.

Hugh has worked extensively in London’s West End and on Broadway, lighting over 200 productions worldwide and receiving many accolades for his designs including two TONY Awards, three Olivier Awards, two Green Room awards, a Helpmann and Molière.
Currently in the West End: Back to the Future (also on Broadway) and Matilda the musical (also international tour).
Previous work in Australia includes: Baz Luhrmann’s STRICTLY BALLROOM, the musicals MARY POPPINS, MATILDA, SHREK, THE WIZARD OF OZ, SPAMALOT and SCROOGE as well as the hit plays ART, THE GRADUATE and The Old Vic’s production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Comedy Theatre, Melbourne.
